Eye Exams Could Save Your Vision
The best way to maintain healthy eyes is through eye exams performed by an optometrist. And don’t stress about the results—we take time to educate you and instill confidence in your eye health before you leave our clinic.
Toronto Centre Eye Care’s adult and senior eye exams were explicitly designed to detect early symptoms of eye disease, enabling us to treat them more quickly and effectively.
When you schedule an eye exam with us, rest assured that you will receive compassionate and comprehensive care. Take a proactive approach to your eye health—visit us today.
Why Are Eye Exams Important?
Many patients do not realize that most eye diseases develop without symptoms. Conditions like glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration usually progress so slowly that you may not notice any change to your vision until significant permanent damage has been done.
For our dear patients over 60, eye exams could be your saving grace when it comes to ocular health. As you age, your body becomes more vulnerable to certain conditions and diseases. This is particularly true with your eyes. Regular eye exams allow us to ensure your eyes are working properly and screen for any potential issues or diseases.
So, visit us for your comprehensive eye exam—even if you don’t have symptoms. An eye exam could potentially preserve your eyesight and help you learn how to maintain your visual health.
How Often Should I Have an Eye Exam?
At Toronto Centre Eye Care, we encourage our patients to follow the guidelines for eye exam frequency put forward by the Canadian Optometric Association. Of course, if you have preexisting conditions or other health concerns, your eye exam schedule may change. For those who are low risk or asymptomatic, we recommend the following schedule:
- Every year for children under the age of 20
- Every 2 to 3 years for adults ages 20 to 39
- Every 2 years for adults ages 40 to 64
- Every year for adults ages 65 and older
The Toronto Centre Eye Care Approach
Do you want to feel like you’re the only patient that matters? Then head to Toronto Centre Eye Care because that’s how we approach every appointment.
If it’s your first visit with us, we will sit down before your appointment and get to know you a little better. You will be asked to fill out some paperwork detailing your current medications, medical history, and other basic information. Once we have all this on file, we most likely will not ask at your subsequent appointments.
We also ask that you bring your OHIP card, any insurance provider information, and if you have them, your current glasses or contact lenses with their case.
Then, you head to the exam room, where your optometrist will use a combination of advanced technologies and simple tests to determine the functionality of your eyes. During the exam, you can expect the following tests that allow us to determine whether your eyes require correction or treatment:
- focus ability
- visual acuity
- peripheral vision
With our excellent array of diagnostic technology, we will look at the eye’s interior, closely inspecting it for any indication of vision hampering conditions such as keratoconus and cataracts. We’ll also seek signs of diseases with the potential to induce blindness, such as age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma.
At the end of your exam, we will always take the time to discuss our findings with you, covering any questions or concerns you may have. It’s important to us that you understand the current state of your eye health.
After your eye exam is complete, why not take a moment to peruse our eyewear gallery? We carry some of the world’s most reputable eyewear brands, including Ray-Ban, Hugo Boss, and Versace. Our optical staff will happily make recommendations based on your colouring, face shape, and personal style.
