What Happens During a Laser Eye Surgery Consultation?
At Toronto Eye Care Centre, we offer consultations and co-management for our patients undergoing laser eye surgery.
Your Consultation
During your consultation, we will determine if laser eye surgery can help your vision. Typically, laser eye surgery helps correct refractive errors like myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.
To start, we will evaluate your eye health for factors that may affect your candidacy for laser eye surgery, like:
- Dry eye disease
- Frequent eye infections
- Eye diseases and conditions
- Diabetes
- Overly large pupils
Then, we will provide details about the surgery, discuss your expectations, and explain the recovery process during your consultation.
Patients must understand and accept that laser eye surgery won’t always result in 20/20 vision. Approximately 90% of patients achieve 20/20 or 20/40 vision, but many still require contact lenses or eyeglasses.
Once we have determined your candidacy for the procedure, we’ll refer you to one of our trusted ophthalmologists.
Co-Management
Post-surgery, our team will book a series of follow-up appointments with you at Toronto Centre Eye Care to ensure your vision is recovering correctly from the procedure.
There are some expected side effects to laser eye surgery, like:
